Culturally Responsive Group Supervision for Associate Clinician
A supportive space for clinical growth, consultation, and professional development.
Early-career clinicians often find themselves navigating complex clinical situations while simultaneously developing their professional identity, confidence, and voice as therapists. This 8-week group supervision experience is designed to provide a supportive, reflective, and engaging space to grow alongside other associate clinicians.
Led by Katharine Chen, LICSW, this group combines clinical consultation, discussion, and professional development for associates seeking thoughtful supervision and community. Participants are invited to bring cases, explore clinical challenges, and process common experiences that arise in the early years of practice.
Many early-career clinicians experience isolation as they navigate the complexities of clinical work. This group offers an opportunity to build relationships with other clinicians who are facing similar professional and clinical challenges while learning from one another's experiences, perspectives, and insights.
About Katharine Chen, LICSW
Katharine Chen is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who provides culturally responsive therapy and supervision grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and respect for the complexity of human experience.
Kat has specialized expertise working with immigrant and refugee populations and is passionate about supporting clinicians in developing culturally informed, ethical, and effective clinical practice. She integrates cultural considerations into case conceptualization and encourages clinicians to explore how identity, culture, systemic factors, and lived experience influence the therapeutic relationship and treatment process.
Kat comes from a community mental health background and has worked across a variety of systems, including healthcare, schools, foster care, and criminal justice settings. Through supervision, she creates a space where clinicians can deepen their skills, explore challenges openly, and grow into confident, thoughtful practitioners.
How the Group is Structured
This group is designed to provide both clinical learning and meaningful consultation. Each 2-hour session will generally be structured as follows:
First Hour: Professional Development & Clinical Topics
The first hour will focus on common topics and challenges that frequently arise for associate clinicians, including:
Case conceptualization and treatment planning
Building confidence and professional identity
Navigating ethical dilemmas and clinical uncertainty
Cultural responsiveness in clinical work
Boundaries and use of self in therapy
Documentation, diagnosis, and clinical decision-making
Therapist burnout and sustainability in practice
Second Hour: Case Consultation & Process
The second hour will focus on current clinical questions, case consultation, and reflective discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring cases, questions, and challenges from their clinical work for group discussion and feedback.
To get the most out of this experience, group members should come prepared to actively participate, present questions and/or cases for consultation, and engage thoughtfully with one another's clinical work. The intention of the group is not only to learn from the supervisor, but also to learn from one another.
This collaborative approach helps create a rich learning environment where clinicians can deepen their clinical skills, expand their perspectives, and develop greater confidence in their work.
